Rex Ryan Has Thrown Sanchez to The Wolves for The Final Time

Ryan along with former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum failed to draft well and thus they never put the proper players around Sanchez to allow him to maximize his ability. When Sanchez joined the Jets, he came to a veteran team that had a winning record in the previous season and all he had to do was to fall in line.

When those veteran players such as former Jets running back Thomas Jones and guard Alan Faneca left, Sanchez has never been able to elevate his game as he has also had his differences with Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes.

Ryan has never helped Sanchez improve and the situation wasn’t made better in 2012 when the Jets signed quarterback Tim Tebow. Instead of Ryan, Tannenbaum, and Jets owner Woody Johnson improving the team around Sanchez, they brought in another young quarterback that was having his ability questioned as well in Tebow. The Jets then appeased Sanchez with a three-year extension for being a mediocre quarterback.

Now to add insult to injury, this past August, Ryan sent Sanchez back into a preseason game against the New York Giants in the fourth quarter behind a backup offensive line. Sanchez was hit by former Giants defensive tackle Marvin Austin and he left the game with a shoulder injury. It has now been revealed that Sanchez suffered a torn labrum which will keep him out of action for most of the season. The injury all but ends Sanchez’s career with the Jets as the team appears ready to go in another direction with Geno Smith at quarterback.

Sanchez will more than likely finish his Jets career with 68 touchdowns and 69 interceptions.

Aside from being the Jets starting quarterback when the team went to the AFC Championship Games in 2008 and 2009, Sanchez will always be remembered by fans of the Jets for the infamous “butt fumble” that occurred last Thanksgiving against the New England Patriots. Sanchez is the poster boy for what Ryan has done since he has become the head coach of the Jets; which is making his players believe that they were better than what they were.

Since entering the NFL in 2009, Sanchez never had to compete for his job as it was handed to him from day one. Now the ship that is Sanchez is out of the port and well out to sea and it is too late to turn around and fix the mechanical problems.

With a career completion percentage of 55.1 and a career quarterback rating of 71.7, Sanchez more than likely will not enter the 2014 NFL season as a starting quarterback, but what he could do is look for a fresh start in a new city as a backup quarterback under the guidance of an offensive minded head coach. Current Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has a knack a reviving the careers of quarterbacks while San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh made a name for himself in the NFL as a head coach when he turned the career of current Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith around when the two were together for two seasons in San Francisco. Reid and Harbaugh are just two examples of head coaches that Sanchez should look to play for in 2014.

Three years ago Sanchez was the best thing since sliced bread for the Jets. Now just like bad acne, the Jets cannot get rid of him quick enough as Ryan has hung him out to dry.
