The Seattle Seahawks became members of The NFC West in 2002, but until
recently there was never an intense rivalry with The San Francisco
49ers. Both teams made the playoffs last season as The Niners edged The
Seahawks at the finish line to win The NFC West Title. These two teams
are splitting images of each other. Before coming to The National
Football League, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh was the head coach at
Stanford University while Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was the head
coach at The University of Southern California. These two men were
fierce rivals in The Pac-12 Conference as Harbaugh’s Stanford team was
the pesky little brother that wanted to knock Carroll and USC off of
their perch. The Seahawks and Niners both have defenses that finished in
the top five last season in total defense while both teams have
high-powered offenses which are led by young, athletic quarterbacks.

In
the latest case of keeping up with The Joneses, Seattle made a trade
last week to acquire wide receiver/kick returner Percy Harvin from The
Minnesota Vikings. Not to be undone, San Francisco acquired wide
receiver Anquan Boldin from The Baltimore Ravens before Seattle’s move
for Harvin could begin trending on Twitter. Now these two teams that
made deep runs in The NFL Playoffs last season are priming themselves in
the all important effort of reaching Super Bowl 48 next February.

The
Niners have been rumored to be interested in trading for New York Jets
cornerback Darrelle Revis. If The 49ers were to acquire Revis, it would
only intensify the feud between Revis and Seahawks Pro Bowl cornerback
Richard Sherman who is not shy about expressing how he feels.

49ers
quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson
have only begun to tap their potential. Kaepernick finished his second
year in The NFL as he led The 49ers to their first appearance in The
Super Bowl since 1994. As a rookie, Wilson let everyone know that it
wasn’t all about Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Andrew Luck and
Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III as he led The
Seahawks to The NFC Divisional Round which included a victory over RG3
in The NFC Wild Card Round.

For Carroll and Harbaugh, they both
had prior experience in The NFL as Carroll was the head coach of The New
York Jets and New England Patriots while Harbaugh enjoyed a 15-year
career as an NFL quarterback. Both men built their reputations as
coaches in college and they have brought that college attitude to their
respective teams. The Niners and Seahawks are built like college teams
as both rosters are deep with young and talented players. For both
Seahawks and 49ers it almost appears as if there is a competition at
every position on the team. It is almost as if you’re waiting for Tommy
Trojan to lead The Seahawks onto the field while you want to hear the
eccentric Stanford Marching Band perform at halftime of a 49er home
game.

The schedules for 2013 have yet to be released, but you
could imagine that when these two teams face off it will be in
prime-time. The rivalry between The Niners and Seahawks isn’t just a
West Coast thing. If you’re a fan of The NFL, these two teams will give
you your money’s worth.
