1. Kansas City Chiefs-Luke Joeckel-Offensive Tackle-Texas A&M
In every mock draft that I have done for 2013, I have not wavered from The Kansas City Cheifs taking Joeckel. Joeckel is the first building block in what new Chiefs head coach Andy Reid hopes is a quick turnaround.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars-Sharrif Floyd-Defensive Tackle-Florida
There are several directions that The Jacksonville Jaguars can go with this pick, but plugging a hole on the defensive line for the departed Terrence Knighton is a start.
3. Oakland Raiders-Dion Jordan-Outside Linebacker/Defensive End-Oregon
I have gone back and forth with Oakland taking Jordan or Ezekiel Ansah, but Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie knows that he must upgrade a very weak pass rush.
4. Philadelphia Eagles-Eric Fisher-Offensive Tackle-Central Michigan
Like Joeckel going to Kansas City, I have not wavered on this pick as new Eagles head coach Chip Kelly must protect Michael Vick or whomever will be The Eagles starting quarterback this season.
5. Detroit Lions-Lane Johnson-Offensive Tackle-Oklahoma
Lions general manager Martin Mayhew could take defensive end Ezekiel Ansah here, but Lane Johnson is too good to pass on. There will still be some quality pass rushers available early in the second round when Detroit picks again.
6. Cleveland Browns-Chance Warmack-Guard-Alabama
You will see a heavy dose a running back Trent Richardson for The Browns this season which means that he needs a quality offensive line in front of him.
7. Arizona Cardinals-Barkevious Mingo-Outside Linebacker-LSU
With the acquisition of quarterback Carson Palmer, it is time for new Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians to work on his defense.
8. Buffalo Bills-Jarvis Jones-Outside Linebacker-Georgia
Just like The Cardinals, The Bills went the veteran quarterback route in Kevin Kolb which will allow new Bills head coach Doug Marrone to upgrade his pass rush as well.
9. New York Jets-Cordarrelle Patterson-Wide Receiver-Tennessee
There are so many directions that Jets general manager John Idzik can go with this pick. The Jets look like they are going to blow a chance to get picks for cornerback Darrelle Revis which makes this pick here that more crucial.
10. Tennessee Titans-Ezekiel Ansah-Defensive End-BYU
As a team, The Titans had 39 sacks last season, but they never had that one player who could put fear into opponents like Ansah can.
11. San Diego Chargers-Dee Milner-Cornerback-Alabama
The Chargers have several needs with this pick, but for new Chargers general manager Tom Telesco his squad is very thin at cornerback.
12. Miami Dolphins-Kenny Vaccaro-Safety-Texas
The Dolphins could trade down with this pick and get Vaccaro a little later in the first round, but they must first find a team that is willing to deal.
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Xavier Rhodes-Cornerback-Florida State
The Jets wanted this pick from The Bucs to part with Darrelle Revis. Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano keeps his pick, drafts a cornerback, and will come out smelling like a rose.
14. Carolina Panthers-Johnathan Cooper-Guard-North Carolina
Add The Panthers to a list of teams that can go in several directions with their first-round pick, but Panthers head coach Ron Rivera wants to run the football and also protect his franchise quarterback in Cam Newton.
15. New Orleans Saints-Tavon Austin-Wide Receiver-West Virginia
The Saints could be in line for a pass rusher here, but Tavon Austin is too good to pass on as he is Reggie Bush and Darren Sproles combined.
16. St. Louis Rams-Alec Ogletree-Outside Lineacker-Georgia
If The Rams want to they can trade down and get Ogletree. If The Dolphins don’t take Kenny Vaccaro, St. Louis will pick him here.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers-Star Lotulelei-Defensive Tackle-Utah
The Steelers are getting old at several positions, including nose tackle. Lotulelei will fall in the draft due to health concerns which will make Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin very happy.
18. Dallas Cowboys-Bjoern Werner-Defensive End-Florida State
The Cowboys could go with D.J. Fluker, but now that they are switching back to the 4-3 defense they’ll need to add another down edge rusher.
19. New York Giants-D.J. Fluker-Offensive Tackle-Alabama
Giants general manager Jerry Reese has several needs for his team, but he always sticks to his philosophy which is taking the best player available which Fluker is.
20. Chicago Bears-Manti Te’o-Middle Linebacker-Notre Dame
I could see The Bears trading this pick, but people need to wake up and realize that Manti Te’o could be calling The Windy City home real soon.
21. Cincinnati Bengals-Eddie Lacy-Running Back-Alabama
Some people might look at Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis for taking Lacy here, but The Benglas will be the team to beat in The AFC North this season and they will need a power back to close out ball games.
22. St. Louis Rams-Robert Woods-Wide Receiver-USC
The Rams would take Tavon Austin with the 16th pick if he is available, but if they miss out on him, Rams head coach Jeff Fisher gets a guy that will move the chains for Rams quarterback Sam Bradford.
23. Minnesota Vikings-Desmond Trufant-Cornerback-Washington
Matthew Stafford (Lions), Aaron Rodgers (Packers), and Jay Cutler (Bears) are the quarterbacks that The Vikings will face in The NFC North this season. It is safe to say that Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier must upgrade the secondary.
24. Indianapolis Colts-DeAndre Hopkins-Wide Receiver-Clemson
Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne is getting older, but The Colts get a fresh impact player at the wide receiver position.
25. Minnesota Vikings-Matt Elam-Strong Safety-Florida
The Vikings could go for middle linebacker Kevin Minter here, but Elam is too good to pass on.
26. Green Bay Packers-Jamar Taylor-Cornerback-Boise State
Previously I had The Packers selecting wide receiver Keenan Allen here, but with recent off the field issues his stock is dropping which will allow Green Bay to go in a different direction by improving the secondary.
27. Houston Texans-Menelik Watson-Offensive Tackle-Florida State
The Texans are another team that could’ve taken a run on Keenan Allen, but Texans head coach Gary Kubiak also needs to bolster the offensive line.
28. Denver Broncos-Cornelius Carradine-Defensive End-Florida State
After the Elvis Dumervil debacle, The Broncos need another pass rusher to take some pressure off of outside linebacker Von Miller.
29. New England Patriots-Sheldon Richardson-Defensive Tackle-Missouri
We can’t rule out a trade with The Patriots here, but Richardson will give Patriots head coach Bill Belichick more strength and versatility on the defensive line.
30. Atlanta Falcons-Tyler Eifert-Tight End-Notre Dame
The Falcons were able to talk tight end Tony Gonzalez into returning for another season, but that doesn’t mean that Falcons general manager Rich McKay cannot look to the future.
31. San Francisco 49ers-Sylvester Williams-Defensive Tackle-North Carolina
The Niners had several losses from a stout defensive line and we know how much 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh loves a physical football team.
32. Baltimore Ravens-Terron Armstead-Offensive Tackle-Arkansas Pine-Bluff
If a team wants to make a run on a quarterback here, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome would answer the call, but he could also be content with beefing up his offensive line being that quarterback Joe Flacco just became a very rich man.
