1. Indianapolis Colts-Andrew Luck-Quarterback-Stanford
Colts owner Jim Irsay has not fully guaranteed that he will draft
Andrew Luck. What he says and what he does are two different things.
2. Washington Redskins-Robert Griffin III-Quarterback-Baylor
The Redskins gave up plenty for the opportunity to draft Robert Griffin III who might be the best pure athlete in the draft.
3. Minnesota Vikings-Matt Kalil-Offensive Tackle-USC
The Vikings drafted their franchise quarterback last year in Christian Ponder and must now find a way to protect him.
4. Cleveland Browns-Trent Richardson-Running Back-Alabama
Most people do not have Trent Richardson going this high, but The
Cleveland Browns need a workhorse at running back and he won’t be around
when they pick later in the first round.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Morris Claiborne-Cornerback-LSU
Buccaneers
cornerback Aqib Talib is facing the possibility of going to prison and
cornerback Ronde Barber will be 37-years old when the season starts.
Claiborne is a speedy corner that knows how to find the ball.
6. St. Louis Rams-Riley Reiff-Offensive Tackle-Iowa
This will
be a shock to some people that I do not have wide receiver Justin
Blackmon in this spot, but new Rams head coach Jeff Fisher knows that he
must protect quarterback Sam Bradford up front.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars-Quinton Coples-Defensive End-North Carolina
Being
that Jacksonville picked up wide receiver Laurent Robinson in free
agency, it takes away from the huge need at wide receiver which will
allow The Jaguars to focus on another need position.
8. Miami Dolphins-Justin Blackmon-Wide Receiver-Oklahoma State
The Dolphins shocked everyone when they traded wide receiver Brandon
Marshall to The Chicago Bears. Since they missed out on quarterback
Peyton Manning in free agency it will be Matt Moore under center in
South Florida and he needs a target on the outside.
9. Carolina Panthers-Dontari Poe-Defensive Tackle-Memphis
The
Panthers made huge strides on offense in year one under head coach Ron
Rivera and know it is time for him to upgrade his defense. Dontari Poe
is more than a workout warrior as he can come in immediately and
contribute for The Panthers as they have visions of the postseason.
10. Buffalo Bills-Johnathan Martin-Offensive Tackle-Stanford
The
Bills paid quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick a ton of money last season and
he cannot throw the football down the field when he is running for his
life.
11. Kansas City Chiefs-David DeCastro-Guard-Stanford
Under head
coach Romeo Crennel, The Chiefs will be a physical football team,
especially on the offensive line. Kansas City gets a player in DeCastro
that has a bit of a mean streak to him.
12. Seattle Seahawks-Luke Kuechly-Inside Linebacker-Boston College
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll loves football players. Luke
Kuechly is a smart football player that is an extension of his coach on
the football field.
13. Arizona Cardinals-Melvin Ingram-Outside Linebacker-South Carolina
One
thing that The Cardinals have lacked since Ken Whisenhunt became head
coach in the dessert is a pass rusher. Melvin Ingram is relentless as
his motor doesn’t stop.
14. Dallas Cowboys-Dre Kirkpatrick-Cornerback-Alabama
The Cowboys
have several needs, but they cannot overlook the secondary. In a
division with The Giants and Eagles, they will need all of the corners
that they can sign.
15. Philadelphia Eagles-Michael Brockers-Defensive Tackle-LSU
At
this point Michael Brockers is the best athlete available. The rich will
get richer as Brockers will be apart of a very potent defensive line in
Philadelphia.
16. New York Jets-Whitney Mercilus-Defensive End-Illinois
Since Rex Ryan has been the head coach of The Jets, he has had one
of the top defenses in professional football, but he has lacked a
dominant edge rusher. Whitney Mercilus can line up as either a down
lineman or a stand-up rusher. Drafting Mercilus would give The Jets more
flexibility with other players on defense as well.
17. Cincinnati Bengals-Michael Floyd-Wide Receiver-Notre Dame
I
know that Cincy drafted wide receiver A.J. Green in the first round last
season, but Floyd is the best player available. By drafting Floyd,
Green would see less double teams and it would allow wide receiver
Jordan Shipley to play the slot position.
18. San Diego Chargers-Courtney Upshaw-Outside Linebacker-Alabama
In
a division with quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Peyton Manning, The
Chargers must be able to put pressure on the quarterback. Upshaw is a
hybrid edge rusher that will give San Diego some much needed
versatility.
19. Chicago Bears-Cordy Glenn-Guard-Georgia
Bears quarterback
Jay Cutler has been taking a beating on the football field since
arriving in The Windy City which means that it is time to give him some
protection up front.
20. Tennessee Titans-Nick Perry-Defensive End-USC
The Titans have not gotten much production out of the defensive end
position in the last few seasons. Nick Perry is one of the strongest
defensive ends in this draft.
21. Cincinnati Bengals-Stephon Gilmore-Cornerback-South Carolina
Cornerback Nate Clements is 32-years-old and he can groom Gilmore for the future.
22. Cleveland Browns-Kendall Wright-Wide Receiver-Baylor
One
thing that The Cleveland Browns lacked last season was playmakers at the
skill positions. Quarterback Colt McCoy gets a running back to hand off
to in Trent Richardson and now he will get a speedy target to throw to
in the form of Kendall Wright.
23. Detroit Lions-Zach Brown-Outside Linebacker-North Carolina
A
few years ago it would have been foolish to say that The Lions would be
in position to take the best athlete available. That has changed under
head coach Jim Schwartz. Zach Brown is still a little “green” as a
football player, but his athleticism makes up for it.
24. Pittsburgh Steelers-Jerel Worthy-Defensive Tackle-Michigan State
There are several directions that The Steelers can go with this
pick, but nose tackle Casey Hampton will be 35 when the season starts.
Jerel Worthy is a nasty physical lineman that fits the mold of The
Steelers.
25. Denver Broncos-Fletcher Cox-Defensive Tackle-Mississippi State
The Broncos lost Brodrick Bunkley to free agency and they have a glaring weakness on the defensive line.
26. Houston Texans-Mike Adams-Offensive Tackle-Ohio State
The Texans lost Eric Winston to free agency, but they will not skip a beat as they can plug in Adams as an immediate starter.
27. New England Patriots-Andre Branch-Defensive End-Clemson
There
will be a buzz during The NFL Draft as we will all wait and see if
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick will use this pick or trade it.
Belichick tends to look towards the future as far as his draft picks,
but taking Andre Branch gives New England a versatile pass rusher that
they have lacked since the days of Mike Vrabel and WIllie McGinest.
28. Green Bay Packers-Devon Still-Defensive Tackle-Penn State
The Pakcers were hurt last season by not being able to stop teams
defensively. The Pack has nose tackle B.J. Raji, but he needs some help
on the defensive line. Devon Still is a big man that can take on double
teams up front to free up linebacker Clay Matthews to rush the
quarterback.
29. Baltimore Ravens-Peter Konz-Center-Wisconsin
The Ravens lost
Ben Grubbs to free agency. Peter Konz can play guard for now and shift
back to the center position when Matt Birk decides to retire.
30. San Francisco 49ers-Kevin Zeitler-Guard-Wisconsin
Kevin
Zeitler will fit in perfectly in San Francisco. 49ers head coach Jim
Harbaugh loves a big physical team that will impose their will on
someone and Zeitler will be a welcome edition to the blue collar Niners.
31. New England Patriots-Doug Martin-Running Back-Boise State
I
would be shocked to see The Patriots hold on to this pick, but if they
do Doug Martin is the way to go.The Patriots lost BenJarvus Green-Ellis
to free agency and this would be a serious upgrade. Martin is a physical
runner that can play on every down.
32. New York Giants-David Wilson-Running Back-Virginia Tech
The Super Bowl Champions will look to upgrade the running back
position. Brandon Jacobs was released and Ahmad Bradshaw has not been
able to stay healthy. David Wilson could be Bradshaw’s new running mate
in The Big Apple.
